We will be holding a workshop with Kazuno Seno from Seno Atelier, who plans and produces the Kamakura Wimmel Book.

A Wimmelbook is a large picture book without text, which is popular in German-speaking countries such as Germany and Switzerland. The settings are set in places that arouse children's curiosity, from kindergartens, construction sites, airports, and fictional worlds to real cities, and the characters, each with their own unique personalities, live their own lives in a way that feels just like reality. The pages are filled with illustrations that intersect with imagination.

What's interesting about these picture books is that as you follow the characters, you can see various stories. Children can discover it, have fun with it, or even create their own stories. The Winmel Book is a tool that brings out the imagination of children.

This picture book has been loved for many years based on the German-speaking educational philosophy of nurturing children's sense of autonomy and self-respect, and above all, raising them to become adults who can express their own intentions and ideas.

Ms. Seno, who was raising her children in Switzerland, first encountered Winmelbook about 10 years ago. On the way back from a trip to the zoo in Zurich with my child, I found the zoo's Wimmel book at a souvenir shop. When I suddenly turned over the picture book, the place I had just walked was depicted. She was instantly drawn to picture books that brought back memories of her time at the zoo, such as the animals she saw with the children and the athletics she played with.

We hope that as many people as possible can enjoy the fun of seeing real places depicted in picture books, and the fact that there are no written words that both parents and children can enjoy together. We will be holding a workshop where you can do it!

This program begins with fun games that everyone can play, enjoy the scenes that change as they turn the pages of the Kamakura Wimmel Book, follow the characters and imagine the story, and learn about the drama that is played every day in Swiss kindergartens. This is a workshop where you use the work as a reference to become new characters using colorful cloth and props, and create and imagine stories from various angles. After the workshop, we will have a tea time where you can enjoy WIMMELBUCH and toys from Germany and Switzerland.

Why don't you and your child try this new way of interacting with picture books: simply looking at the pictures, talking with each other, and enjoying the world that unfolds in picture books?
